For once, I was almost speechless!

SCULPTS sister company No.30 Design Studio wins "Innovator of the Year 2024" Award for SCULPTS project at Herefordshire Business Awards

A Personal Reflection

What a fabulous evening it was on Saturday 12th October at the Herefordshire Business Awards! It truly felt like a celebration of the incredible businesses we have here in Herefordshire. I was honored to be a finalist in the Innovator of the Year category, and I’m thrilled to share that No.30 Design Studio won for our work on SCULPTS! A big thank you to Clear Branding, the award sponsor, and to Herefordshire Means Business Ltd for organizing such a wonderful event.

The recognition of this award means the world to me. It’s a testament to the hard work, perseverance, and sheer determination that comes with pushing forward an innovative idea, even when the going gets tough. My vision with SCULPTS has always been to redefine the design and construction of outdoor spaces by moving away from the traditional "Take-Make-Waste" model to a more sustainable, circular, low-carbon economy. This award feels like a huge milestone in that journey.

A big shout out to my fellow finalists, OurPulse, who would have been equally worthy winners, and to Got 2 Sing Choir, Moorcroft Fruit Ltd, and Dr. Janice Lim for the fabulous company on table 23! It was a night to remember.

Looking back on this year, it’s been tough both mentally and physically, but if there's one thing I’ve learned, it’s the importance of perseverance. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and SCULPTS is the result of several years of research, refining, and dedication to the idea of sustainable landscaping. Thanks to the incredible support from NMITE and Innovate UK, things have finally falling into place. I’m so grateful that these organisations have recognised the value of what I’m trying to achieve.

Working as a designer in the landscaping industry, it’s easy to think of it as inherently green and sustainable. But sadly, a lot of the materials commonly used are far from that. Many of them contribute to our linear "Take-Make-Waste" economy. SCULPTS is all about changing that narrative. By utilising low-carbon or carbon-neutral 3D-printed concrete, I’m striving to create bespoke, sustainable hardscaping solutions that reduce environmental impact.

I’m so excited about the future of SCULPTS, and this award has given me an extra push to keep driving forward. Watch this space, because there’s much more to come!

Thank you to everyone who has supported me along this journey, and I look forward to sharing the next steps with you.
